Intriguing. The design of the airship is quite striking - the elongated foredeck suggesting grace, the tower to the aft raising memories of traditional displays of commanding naval power, the jagged-edge patterning of the armour conveying both sharp strength and strange science (you can imagine it being someonscure radar-baffling design), and the suggestion of feathers at the sten allowing it to hang in the air with some natural poise. I'm not quite sure what to make of the fleshy-looking hull, but it's a good contrast which helps to make the distinctive armour central to this picture stand out and it could tie in to the "strange science" element.

If I had to critcise something it's that the stays mounted on the foredeck look almost too functional and mundane against all of the weird styling of the remainder of the ship, but on reflection in helps to ground the image and stop itbeing lost in abstraction.

The clouds have been rendered well - the sky looks suitable, thin andbitingly cold for a high-altitude flight. Altogether, a well-composed piece.

Really cool, I like how you got the feeling of a real 3D object, while most shapes are 2D.. So cool.. so is it a spaceship or just a normal plane? :D

oh and +1 for description ^^ You're so humble :P

Looks like it blasted out of federation square lolz nice work

Woah, best critique i've ever received- thanks!

The only intention i had going into painting this one was to try and do some sort of flying u-boat. I'm really impressed that you were able to identify so many characteristics of the design itself that i was completely oblivious to when painting it.

You're right about the stuff on the deck, it doesn't really gel with the rest of the abstract design and i may look at replacing it with some sort of deck gun or something.

I'm not entirely satisfied with the perspective on it, it certainly looks 3d but when i redrew the construction lines more accurately i realised that theres still some issues with it.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my paintings turning out "fuzzy" and "blurry" lately so i made a very conscious effort to maintain the sharp edges by tracing out the exact areas i wanted to paint inside of by using the selection tool.

I guess it could fly in space, lolk

Oh you actually used construction lines? I thought you just magically made it look like this :D How *do* you do construction lines in ps? (how do you make sure they all converge to the same point that is *way* offscreen?)

Selection tool? Yeah I guess that's a solution ^^. Is there a ';preserve transparency' option in photoshop? (That way, shapes stay like they are on each layer)
:iconhaemoncul:
I'm pretty sloppy with them, You might need to extend the canvas and then pick the point and just have them radiating off in the direction of the object i'm doing.

It's all on a separate layer so you can go back and put in more where you need them, theres also another set of lines coming in from the right hand side of the picture. So you just use them to help you keep the picture looking (somewhat) 3D and good like.

I dunno about the reserve transparency option, but i'm sure there's gotta be something like that in there.
